Detection of various microplastics in human stool: a prospective case series
Schwabl P, Köppel S, Königshofer P, Bucsics T, Trauner M, Reiberger T, Liebmann B (2019). Annals of Internal Medicine.
What they found
All 8 stool samples from volunteers in Europe and Asia contained microplastics, a median of 20 particles (50–500 µm) per 10 g of stool. Nine plastic types were found; polypropylene and PET were most abundant.
